SOPHIA WELLBELOVED: CURRENT ACADEMIC RESEARCH 2011
My current research is now looking at two areas:
1.
Related to Gurdjieff studies:
Gurdjieff and Orage: the influence of the Work on American Literature in novels and short stories of the 1920s and 1930s
Preliminary research into this was given in a paper co-authored with Jon Woodson
‘Conflation of Myths, and ‘Lawful Inexactitudes’ in Zora Neale Hurston’s Monkey Junk’.
2.
Related to wider issues concerning practitioner-scholars of esoteric disciplines and related to the interaction of scholarship and personal experience.

At the conference above, interest in how to effect an interaction between scholarship and personal experience was expressed as the necessity for a ‘bridge’ between the practice and the academic exploration of esoteric, spiritual, or religious teachings which explore and focus on the transformations of the self.’
